Good afternoon folks, here's my problem.
I just recently bought a beautiful rose bubble tip anononme. The first week or so went good but for the last week or so I have had to do water changes every day to keep it going. Everyday around noon or 1 pm the thing looks like it is dying mouth wide open, shrivelled up. I can't figure out why. all my water conditions are fine the only one that i struggle to keep within normal parameters is Ca. and that lately has been running around 300-325ppm. The coral seems to always come back after my water change. One thing i have noticed is that when the annome looks like its dying my open red brain looks like its going to explode so what is the connection?????? is there any. I think it might be a food thing but everytime i try to feed it, it won't eat and the clown eventually kicks the food out. I'm lost now i don't know what to do anymore. HELP people what do you think.

My lighting is old MH's and old Actinics that i'm just waiting to change out when i move into the new big tank downstairs. Coud the lighting be the cause??

Are you adding any chemicals into the tank, such as a Mela/Pima fix, or anything with a possible slime coating substance? Water conditioner?

The only thing that is getting added is CA, Iodine, Mag, Strontium and the odd time Phyto. Could it be possible that the Open brain is too close maybe slime from the open brain is causing this??What do you think

Too many water changes. Why are you changing it every day? Let the anemone get used to the tank.

What is your lighting because anemones need MH to survive and almost perfect water params.

Not entirely we have a BTA that is living quite happily under 1 18K and 1 actinic T-8 flourescent lights so MH isn't a necessity.

Some here.. MH's are not necessary. I have a BTA that's been doing great for 2 years under T-5's.

my anemone is fine under T5s too - I agree about stopping the water changes! that cannot be doing any good at all!

The reason for the water changes is it seems to come back and look half alive when i do the water changes. I've found trace amounts of ammonia but nothing that i would have thought would hurt it so i'm really puzzeled as to what is the dillema.

When I got my BTA, it had a hard time adjusting. I read somewhere that adding some PolyFilter helps remove contaminants that might be irritating the anemone. I added some, and it did seem to help quite a bit.

My BTA deflate once everyday at around the same time for a couple of hours. This is normal. They will do this for reasons like getting ready to poop or digesting food etc. Leave it alone for a while. It's probably not your water. The reason it comes back after a water change is it's probably reacting to the new water but eventually it will come back on it's own anyway.

sundancer hit it dead on. The rbta is just pooping, so let it be. The mh statement is ridiculous as bta and many others have thrived under t5.

I just added an extra media in my filter to take out any trace amounts of ammonia that would be there. The BTA does not seem to move at all thats whats puzzeling if he was ****ed at something i thought i would have seen it move but he's been on the same rock ever since i put him in. So when you guys say he'll deflate and try to have a bowel movement everyday does that mean that it looks like his insides are coming out??? If so than that must be what is going on cause it seems to be everyday at around the same time.

My bta looks bad when he is pooping, but it doesn't look like his insides are coming out. I would let it go a couple days without a water change.

How old is your tank? How close are any corals to the anemone? You shouldn't have any readings of ammonia. That probably isn't helping. How old are your bulbs?

Can you say all your readings for alk, ph, temp, amm, no2, no3, and any other tests you have.

You say that you have a clown in the anemone. how big is the clown, and how big is the anemone? What type of clown? Do you have a picture of the anemone?

In an established marine tank there should be no readings of ammonia. Figure out that problem and Im sure the nem will turn around. How old is the tank?

Here are my readings day after my last water change. at 11:00 N02- <.3
NH3 - 0-0.25 Not sure as what colour it is (I hate my colour comparisons)
PH- 8.0
CA - 330
Temp in Morning 77.0
Temp at midday 80.0

Also to let everyone know I pulled almost all my Live rock out of this tank preparing to move into my new tank downstairs in a couple of weeks or so. i'm not sure if this could be related. I have been feeding everyone daily and there could be food waste causing the ammonia but other than that i'm baffeled. the tank has been set up for about 2 years prior to me pulling all the rock out.
