94 gallon tank cycle question

Would I be able to get away with cycling a 94 gallon tank with more or loss 50 lbs of live rock? Im planning on adding another 40 lbs later but for now the only amount I can get my hands on is 50, I was wondering if that is enough to cycle my tank? Also using dry sand, thanks!

That should be o.k. It doesn't really mater until you start putting fish etc. in. The more ammonia produced will call for more bacteria to process it and more rock will produce places for it to grow, as well as it will grow on the glass too.

I'm curious, why would you need to cycle the rock first if the tank is already cycled? If the bacteria levels and their food sources are stabilized, new surface area will disrupt that? Thanks, I'm about 3 weeks into my cycle so still researching.

Anybody? Curious as my cycle is about halfway through and trying to leave it alone, covered in the temporary algae blooms

When you add new Rock, you will alter the flow pattern in the tank. That will affect the biofilm that grew for a certain type of flow and exposure to light. So playing around with the scape can lead to a mini cycle as far as I understand.

Do you plan to add the additional stone before or after you add fish?
