A bad Sunday

Well...

I wish I was offering photos of good things with a tank. However, that is not the case. Here is what can happen if you clean your needle valve on your CO2 regulator and reinstall it. Then plug in your selenoid and the valve is junk....

I am shopping for a new reactor now. I'm thinking a new GEO 624 would do nicely. If anyone else has suggestions for another model for 400-500 gallons let me know.

Looks bad, good thing you didn't get really hurt. First time I've ever heard of this happening. I thought the media shot out. Atleast that is reusable.
Sucks man...Good luck in your search for a replacement.

did it explode?

Yeah man! BOOM!!!

It popped so loud that I jerked away and pulled my back out it. Luckily it only blew out water, chips of acrlyic and the thumbs screws.

Does the Critter carry Reef Fanatic regulators? Anyone know?

I tried calling in today since I was in Elyria already and I got the voicemail. I guess I'll have to check back with them tomorrow.

I would go with a MTC procal ... I love my MTC mini cal only one pump to operate too... the recirc pump works as a siphon so it eliminates the need for a feed pump !! and really built nice too

Sad Sunday turned into glad Monday. Glad to have good friends in this hobby and a quality stocked LFS. Thanks to everyone for their support and listening to my story. I hope others can learn from it. I did some research and I couldn't resist the simplicity of the GEO 624 reactor. I called Dan at the Saltycritter and asked if he had the reactor and a Reef Fanatic regulator. He said he had the reactor but it could take some time to get the regulator. A good friend actually had a brand new regulator sitting at home. He offered it to me so that I could get back up and running. So, 3 hours of driving around the state of Ohio yesterday and I managed to aquire all the parts needed to get a reactor back on line. It took me about an hour to unpack the reactor and assemble everything. I was being a bit anal and actually reading the instructions. I took all the media out of my old reactor and rinsed it out thuroughly. Placed the lid on and filled the reactor. I have to say George (GEO) has thought of everthing with this reactor. All of the improvements I would have added to my old reactor were already on the new one. The only issue I ran into was the hose lengths were just a little shy of being long enough to neatly route them as I had done on my previous setup. That really isn't that big of an issue and I can square that away at any time. The next thing I noticed during the pickup of the regulator was that was pre-set for the secondary output. I think if I would have had that feature on my old regulator the explosion would not have happened. The Reef Fanatic regulator is very simple to install. I'll try and get some pictures up this evening of the new reactor.

Thanks again to PMG and the Critter!
