A different kind of FO

Hi folks,

I'm a reefkeeper and considering setting up a separate FO display. I'm looking for pictures of unique setups. Something modern and clean looking with minimal rock.

I was in a restaurant once that has a long tank, it was FO and was mostly decorated with colorful pieces of blown glass. I know it sounds odd, but it really complimented the colors of the fishes well.

Any pictures or ideas would be appreciated.

well, my tank is not of the norm from what ive seen, i have very lil rock (its down to even less than what is in the picture). I like the open ocean, and well, wanted a tank to relflect that atmosphere, I only added a few rocks for the lil guys to hide behind when they get scared.once i set up my bigger sump, everything will be hidden, so itll be pretty much open and black. :D For what you want to do, just imagine my rocks as sumthing else, like broken pottery or sumthin.

The lighting of my tank was a lil experimental project, and it turned out nicely, it adds great color to the room at tank. lighting is metal halides (2x175w, 20k) 22 inches above the tank. It gives in a nice open ocean look, as you could see in the first pic, and here a second pic to show u how dark and natural open ocean looking it is. I found 22 inches to be the best, after testing alot of other hieghts. Its seem to be the closest distance I could do w/o causing my shark and ray to react adversly.

I have not finished setting up my new FOWLR but it will be somewhat minimal and clean. I am using a decent amount of rock but it will be in tall columns made with fiberglass rods. Shallow Sand bed just for looks . The stand and canopy are white which is a bit different and I find a bit more modern looking for some reason. The pluming of this tank is taking a long time but heres a few pics of where its at. The stand and canopy still need doors obviously and also white paint (its just primed). Lighting is all T5's. It should all be up and running next week and I will post pics then as well. Not sure if this helps at all...

Justin! Nice furniture! Nice tank too. I, like yourself, absolutely LOVE the look of long shallow tanks. I have a 20L right now but plan to upgrade to something about the size of your tank. Do you have a progress thread?

I have not updated in a little while but I will be tonight or tomorrow. I have painted the back of the tank black and also started the plumbing. Take a look and tell me what you think.
