Is it ok for clowns to host in a plate? (short tentacled, about 6 ~ 7'' diameter)

Also, is it ok for torch to touch each other? I have two different morphs, not sure if I should place them next to each other. Do they like high flow? Low flow? Much light?

No problem with two torch corals touching. As long as the plate opens and seems happy it should be fine. The problem is that when clowns don't have an anemone to host they will pick another coral to host.

These clowns are spoiled. They have a colony of hairy mushrooms, two torches, then a plate they host. They would move everyday. ;\

Make sure the clowns don't damage the tissue by rubbing on it to hard and grinding it on the calcareous skeleton.

that's what i was afraid of. they are not hosting in it constantly (moving from mushrooms, to torch to plate.) Maybe I will relocate the plate.

I would wait it out and see if the plate seems very annoyed w/ them hosting i'd sell or trade it of..

as far as the torch touching thats no big deal.

I've had three Fungia plates (One short tentacle, two long) that my GS Maroon Clown has destroyed. The plate corals have such sharp skeletons that it doesn't take more then a couple light rubs from the clown to do some real damage to the tissue on the plate. I have a beautiful pink/purple long tentacle huge plate that my clown killed while I was away on vaca and sent my tank through hell.

Any idea how to stop them from this annoying behavior? I mean come on, how many corals do you need to host...

edit:

you know what it is... a diamond goby dug a hole right underneath the rock where the torches are resting. he keeps scaring the clowns away. :mad2:
