A few questions about foxfaces.

I just got a foxface and he is AWSOME. I love him so much and he is the most awsome fish I have ever had. Well my question is this:

Question # 1:

My mom was looking at the tank and she claimed that she saw the foxface eat a featherduster. It is one of those little hitchhicker ones, they are all over my tank (like 250 of them) so its not a big deal but I was just wondering if they eat feather dusters? I can see a few "shells" of featherdusters but I have never seen him eat them and thought they were totaly vegetarian. So do they eat those?

Question # 2:

How venemous are their spines? I read somewhere that the venom could kill you. Is this true? I'm sure the bigger it is, and the smaller you are that this may be more true. What is the worst that is likely to happen to me if I get 'stung'? What is the worst that will happen to my other fish it they get 'stung' (it that ever even happens)?

Thanks in advance for all the help with my questins about my foxface. :)

Not all foxfaces are strictly vegetarian! I have one that eats open brains, elegance corals, and scolymia (sp.?). As for the venom...try to avoid it! I've never been stung but I dont think it is life threatening. Just like about anything, I think different people may have different reactions the the sting. If you get stung, put the affected area in HOT water (as hot as you can stand it without burning yourself). This will help to relieve the pain. I think its similar to a bristle worm or one of those fiberglass bicycle flags we had as kids. BTW, if you keep him well fed, I think he will be less likely to sample any of youre corals.

I have a Scribbled rabbit and he never touches any coral. He completely wiped out a monster hair algea problem in a nano before moving to a 75. He is always hungry and eats a lot! I hand feed him nori-we play tug of war. If he's eating your corals, he's probably hungry.

What kind of Foxface is it?

I have a "one spot" Foxface Lo and he's awesome. Wiped out my algae problem one handed. :)

Yours was probably picking at some algae and accidentally hit the feather duster.

I've never been stung by my Foxface in the last 2-3 years that I've owned one. He is the first to get the food when I feed the tank. He will literally eat out of my fingers.

My one spot has eaten a few sponges.

I'm guessing it depends on how sensitive you are to them. My friend was fishing out a dead one, the spines poked her, and in about a half hour she was at the emergency room.

I'm very careful when my arm is in the tank.
