A quick way to remove zoa pox

I'm not sure if its known already but you can physically remove Zoa pox.

I received two zoa frags with pox and carefully burst the offending areas with a tooth pick. The yellow contents can out, leaving a small hole which healed quickly.

Thanks for sharing this, it's good to know if someone is currently experiencing an outbreak.

Mucho Reef

PS, did you notice any improvements once you physically removed them?

Also curious if this was an effective treatment. Did you dip in anything before or after the physical removal? This brings up memories of my teenage years- to pop or not to pop? That is the question.

I didn't dip in anything but I should have. I just literally popped them all and killed the pox.

Hi, I don't have any pox in my tank. These were from a small frag I won on eBay. I popped them before putting them in.

Yes, it seemed to have killed whatever pox is. It just left small holes that healed quickly.

I have used this method in the past with a scaple blade. As mentioned above, simply make small incision and release the white pus. I actually prefer this to dipping, etc which casues more stress on all of the zoa's, where as concerntrating on individual zoa's and then at the specific problem works for me. Of couse this is really only suitable for minor outbreaks & major outbreaks, I simply leave the zoa's to recover themselves, this may take a few weeks, but normally they recover.

so this is working for you guys? I tried the furan II and works well for the most part but on some of the more delicate frags it comes back a week later or so. Couple questions on popping the zoapox zits lol.
Does anyone know that if this could be done inside the tank?
Do you think that by doing this you could possibly spread it to other colonies quicker?

bump. I'd really like to try this method, but i'd like to know how your pox is going after doing this. Im just curious if by popping the pox would spread easily or something

I can't see how you could do this in the tank. You would have to take the zoas out first and pop them carefully with precision.

thats what i was thinking and then swish them around in container with tank water so you don't bring any "pus" into the display tank.
