A what is it Q...

Untamed Rose

In Memoriam
OK so ..HI I'm Rose, I am not a total newbie to tanks. Actually I used to have several and worked at a speciality shop but that was over a decade ago....and took several years off b/c well jobs, moving, moving again, maybe more at any moment etc drama...boring and over I can actually set up a real tank now! :fun2:

So Im setting up a 65 gal tank wanting reef tank though more soft corals then hard...put in a 50/50 mix of base rock to live rock. Put in 50 pounds of dry black sand....and another 10 pounds live black sand(not nearly as black as the dry and kinda killed that whole look tbh :/ )
Have a sunsun 304b canister running...5t lights...basic skimmer(dont remember name atm any needs to know I can find it.)
No(intentionally directly purchased) fishy no cleaning crew no corals... yet of course.
I am barely over they ammonia spike from the frozen shrimp before live rock that went in today...sure to have a second in the cycle.

So ok Q and point of posting....
One WTH is this?

Some of the photos I have seen of dragons breath look like it....some are totally different structure(different leaf shape if we where talking trees) 0o I understand color change but not the structure nor that most care things are it wont stick to rock but this is.
So...what is it? I have two nice clumps of it on the live rock that came in today...would like to keep it around if possible.

Also I have three large(I think 2.5-3 inch long turkey wing clams that made the trip alive.) No cause for concern there?

And did I mess up here with the timing?? I figured I wanted to ...needed to order live rock and such ordered online needs well curing.... what better way then in a cycling tank? Now worried I just(will) killed anything and everything that came in that live rock....making it the whole thing take longer.

The rock looks to have nice algae on it. Maybe a plant that was under another rock and it lost its color and now that you have it in the light its making a comeback because of all the tiny hairs spreading upward on the coin plant. looks like an invasive species to me. i do like the pink color of it though. but that is probobly because of a lack of light? Im sure someone else will have another---better opinion. Thanks for posting a nice clear pic.
