A Whole New Dimension

Well, it's time for the next step in our journey of Reef Keeping Evolution!!

Last time, we took a step into a much smaller tank, with Angie's 24 gallon Aquapod Nano. This time, we'll be taking quite a large step in the opposite direction. In the coming weeks, I'll be taking and posting pictures of our progress as we start this new leg of our journey.

Okay, enough suspense, here's the details

Marineland 200 Gallon Deep Dimension with a Starphire glass front panel!! Dimensions are 48" wide X 36" deep X 27" tall. Yes, you read that right, 36" front to back!!! Barbie, at Aquariums Solutions, made us a screaming deal (really, Angie screamed) on it that we just couldn't say "no" to, although Angie mighta tried a time or two.

Here's a couple of pictures. The stand is assembled, and in the living room. Well, partially assembled. The framework is complete and ready to hold up the tank. I'll probably have the tank on the stand tomorrow, depending on how much help I'm able to get. I'll sheet the stand later, most likely with 1/2" oak ply. The "floor" will be 1/2" CDX plywood. I had to build the stand in stages, that I could then bring into the house and assemble. Otherwise, it wouldn't fit through any doors.

Here's the tank, still crated up.

Nice

Nice

Aren't tank build threads fun? I have learned so much by following along on other's threads...

I like the size of that tank...you should have a lot of fun aquascaping it...

How high is your stand?

The stand is 32" tall.

Will your equipment fit with 32" headroom? I'm sure you thought it through... just looks low profile... but maybe that's what you are seeking...

I am really intrigued by the shape of your tank. Looking forward to your thread...

The little girl is a cutie. :D

Looks like a great start.

+1 on the tank size and you should have real fun aquascaping that!!

Where's the other goodies??

So here's an update I've been really wanting to make!! oh and a correction. Today, I get to.

Not sure why I typed "32" above. The stand is actually 36" tall.

Here's the stand, not finished. Still need to decide what style of trim I'm going to use and still need to build the doors. Screws will all be hidden by trim. There will also be plywood installed for the "floor" of the stand.

Here's the pictures I've REALLY been waiting to take. We got the tank placed on the stand a few hours ago.

To give an idea of how large this thing actually is:

This is one of the tanks I have been looking at, Marineland Deep Dimension. I was thinking of the 150 g 36" wide but the 200 gal, 48" looks even better. Keep the photos coming...

Oh, cute daughter. :)

Subscribed. I really like your stand. Much nicer than mine. I HATE WOOD, at least to work with. I think on my next one I will make a metal frame, then sheet with wood. I love that color. Very nice. And your tank came with packaging around it, mine was just open glass...strange.

LOL My tank had been sitting at one of our favorite LFS, for over a year, with no room for her to open it up for display. She'd left it crated up and on the pallet. We loaded it up that way, to bring it home. I didn't un-crate it until a day or two ago.

Thanks for the comments on the stand. I do think I'd change a couple minor things, if I were to do it again. I still need to add trim and build the doors. I specifically planned for it to be easy to dissasemble, like yours, and planned for no center brace. I like the 3' opening, for access to equipment.

Wow good going. I looked into the Marineland DD tanks... but something about Northern California having a stranglehold on a monopoly of a distributor refusing to sell them... well that left me a bit high and dry... although they're ordinarily not cheap tanks at all.

I'm in Arizona and also tried to get one but all tanks here come from Le-Mar and they refuse to allow you to get one of the Marineland tanks, if you want a big tank they want you to buy one of theirs

WooHoo!!! We got a tank full of water!!! It's only freshwater, to test plumbing, flow and such. No leaks, stand is level, we're making progress!!

Yes, there's a mesh wheel in the skimmer collection cup...lol. Just put it there so I wouldn't lose it in all the clutter.

The Sea Swirl on the left hand side will have the locline added to it tomorrow. I wanted to see the flow with and without the locline Y.

Well, like everyone else, I love that tank also, can't wait to see what you do with it. Tagging along for the ride.

your gonna love that tank.ive had my 200 setup for about 6 months and love the dimensions.good luck with the build

Looking good...

Looking good...

Did you sump have enough capacity to handle the drainage from the tank when you shut off the pump? (It looked pretty full to capacity when running).

How is your skimmer operating at that depth?

Your daughter is a sweetie. :)
