AC jr with serial port question....Do u need to get the ground isolated serial connector 4 serial cable? ANyone here use the acjr with out it with no problems.

I think you only need the GISC if you're going to have the serial cable plugged into the PC all the time...because if you don't have the GISC it will cause your PH to not measure correctly.

So if you don't have a GISC, just don't leave it plugged into your PC all the time and you shouldn't have any issues (although you will have to plug it in occasionally to do the initial programming, grab readings from the ACjr, update programming...)

I would like to get email alerts...so i guess needs to be plugged in all the time... My tank is at my restaurant and I'm not there all the time...

The Jr. doesn't support online features does it?

Funny thing is I own and use one and don't know for sure... :D

It does have email alert u just have to get the full version of aqua notes.....So i guess u do need the ground blah blah... That sucks i was going to spend only 300.00 for the unit. Now with all the add on comes out to be 400.00....Maybe I'l go with the reefkeeper2

If you are a member of GIRS, I know know where you can get a program that will do email alerts with graphs for free for the JR. The you can just use the free lite version of aquanotes to setup the JR.

The ACJR is a much better value with many more features than the reefkeeper. Just make sure you get the one with the serial port.

Seems like a lot of money, but after you own one you will never want to have a reef tank without one.... I think just about anyone will agree with that too.

I have never owned a Reefkeeper or the Jr., but looking at the features and the possible future upgrade possibilities, the Jr does seem to have more going for it. I currently have a AC3 and would not want to run my tank without it.

The ability to use other neptune modules (Moonlights, AquaSurf, etc).

The other thing to consider would be that if you ever want to move up to the next level, going from the ACJR to the ACIII would be a lot cheaper then going from the RK2 because they use the same modules and equipment.

There are also a few more/better programming features with the neptunes than the RK's.

There is a website that compares all the controllers side by side. I Wish I knew the link... I know Slovan does. (hopefully he will see this and post it;)
