AC3 Pro unable to send emails

Gang,
I have worked with Curt on this problem for over two months now (Since April 10) and have not been able to get it to work, so I am hoping the collective wisdom of the smarties on this forum can help me out.

I am having trouble configuring my AC3 Pro to send emails. Under the email setup, I have enabled emails. I have set the to and from addresses. I set the admin user and password to the same username and password I use to retrieve and send emails through my roadrunner account. I set the smtp and pop servers to the same settings as my roadrunner account.
I am behind a Linksys router so I am not sure if that is the problem. I am able to telnet into the AC3 and issue commands. I can ping the AC3. I am also able to use the web-based interface to check programs and settings. So I know the computer is on the local network. I am unsure of how to diagnose the problem further. When I click email test, no email is sent.

I tried the debug commands as Curt recommended and I found the following:

From the serial output:
AquaController>
AquaController> 1 maild
AquaController> mail
AquaController> SMTP: smtp-server.austin.r unkn host

AC3 settings:
The smtp server is set to: smtp-server.austin.rr.com
Gateway: 067.009.185.190
IP: 192.168.001.105
NetMask: 255.255.255.000
DNS: 192.168.001.001

For my router, here are its settings:
IP Address: 67.9.185.190
Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0
Default Gateway: 67.9.176.1
DNS1: 24.26.193.62

And for my laptop on my network which does have outside internet connectivity:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.110
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

I asked Curt if my smtp-server address was too long and he said maybe, but I never heard back if this was the case. I find it hard to believe that no other people with cable modems can get this working. I know people have it working, I just can't for the life of me figure out how!
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to get this
working. Leaving my tank without email alarms is pretty stressful, especially considering that this one of the main features I wanted in a tank computer!

What version/date of firmware do you have (see selftest). It looks like you have an old version of the firmware that only support 20 character smtp server names.
Why is the subnet mask 255.255.240.0 on your router? Is that for the external IP or internal?
I sent reply's on 6/7 and 6/16 with the firmware update program, and latest firmware, but I guess you never received it. Make sure that you have email filter setup so that you can receive attachments.

Curt,
Thanks! The Version and date (via self test) is Rev 3.00 - 2/24/05. It is an AC3 Pro.

I sent an alternate email to use to get the firmware update.

Curt/Wookie,

What is the latest rev for the AC3Pro? If Wookie is using an outdated version (4 months old) what is corrected besides the smtp string length?

Yes, the 255.255.240.0 is for my external IP with my roadrunner ISP.

I sent an email under separate cover, but thought I would update the thread as well if anyone else cares.

I updated the firmware as instructed. I validated that the rev was
3.0 and the date was 06/06/05. This seems to have taken care of the smtp server name length problem! However, when I run the mail command in debug, I get the following error:

AquaController>
AquaController> 1 maild
AquaController> mail
AquaController> SMTP: server = 15285d18
SMTP: tcp connect error - -1

I feel like we're getting closer! Thanks so much with your patience
so far and for the beta firmware. Do you have any suggestions about the current problem?

Wookiee,

Why do you have your gateway set differently on your AC3 vs. your notebook (1st post)? I'm assuming from what I'm seeing your router's performing NAT, so shouldn't the gateway be set to the router LAN address instead of the WAN?

Yes, the gateway should be 192.168.1.1. The AquaController was unable to open a socket to the smtp server - having the wrong gateway would definitely cause this problem.

Curt

SUCCESS!!!

Thanks Curt and ericandchrissy! I set my gateway to match that of my laptop's and it worked great! What a relief! For some reason, I had it in my head that the gateway had to be the same as my external IP, but that's probably for a non-routed setup.

I can't thank Curt enough for sticking with me through this!
