i have a few different colonies of acan's and they all of a sudden took a turn for the worst. are there any known acan' diseases? we recently purchased 2 new acan's but those are not the ones that are in trouble. I know my water isn't the best but its been consistent and there hasn't been any drastic changes to the tank besides adding 2 new acan's.

i also observed my drawf lion fish perching on the acan's. can this contribute to their demise? the only aggressive fish would be the dwarf lion fish. the tank i have right now is a temporary 40 breeder tank. its pretty much live rock, fish, corals and water. no sand, some clean up crew... doing weekly water changes and i have an under performing skimmer on it.

we put up some egg crate to block off all fish from the area. we were contemplating on dipping the corals just incase something was on it, however dont want to stress the corals even more.

thx in advance

i think you need to post your parms tbh, most corals need pristine water quality to thrive in the marine aquarium, its possible the water is ok, but perhaps its been a little under par over a period of time, otherwise i suppose somesort of reef pest is responsible, try turning a torch on a few hours after lights out to see if you can spot something.

There are a number of possible causes, but most would be guesswork without seeing a picture and knowing your parameters.

It also depends on what type of acans they are. Aussie lords for example actually like a little less PAR and "dirtier" water.

It could be fish irritation, parameters (mag specifically should be checked), lighting, starvation, disease... any mixture of things.
