I have had this piece since ’04 and grew it from 6 â€"œ 70+ polyps. Approx. 1 month ago I took it in to get it fragged. It was cut into aprrox. 8 pieces. The store kept 1 , I kept 4 and sold the rest. Mine have had the tissue recede and is showing skeleton on 3 1 I have moved to another tank. The store’s piece is dying/dead and three people who bought frags have let me know theirs are dying/dead. What could be the culprit?

sounds like the coral had some sort of disease on it. Was the fragging tool you used clean/sterile? Maybe something got on the coral and slowly ate it away?

corals looked fine for 2/3 weeks. i would think if that was the issue it would have surfaced sooner.

not always but still something to ponder. Just like a disease for a person or pet, you may come in contact with it but it takes a while sometimes to show up. Since it has happened. Three people at least, have this coral so that rules out water quality (unless you all have dirty water, I highly doubt it though) and lighting if acclimated (just on your part you would probally not see any issues since the coral was use to your lights). Fragging a coral is stressful on the coral, but I still think it got a disease or something due to the coral being in three plus diff. tanks/enviorments and everyone shared the same outcome, it has got to be the coral.

What tool did you use to frag the acan? Bone saws and band saws do a much better job of making a clean cut and holding down the heat. The method of fragging would be my first guess. Sorry to hear.

thanks all, i am going to dip them tonight in reefdip. they were cut on a miter saw using a diamond blade. I had it done at a LFS by a very experienced person. I didn't want to kill my favorite and one of my oldest animals by making a mistake as a first time LPS fragger. ( go figure)
