Acans.. Will they grow off of the plug?

So a few months ago I purchased a 3 head acan. It's now over 15. It's on a 1 inch frag plug. Will the base just grow upwards and then out, or will it grow off the sides of the plug? I wasn't expecting for my acans to grow so fast.

Babies pop up off the sides and start to encrust as they grow so I guess that would mean they grow off the sides.

I glued my acan plug on a flat piece of live rock 6" in diameter so it would have room to grow. I also started with 3 heads and now have 30+. However, when i got it I fed it selcon soaked mysis in every head atleast 3x's a week. Now, it's lucky if it gets fed 1-2x's a month so growth has slowed way down.

I feed mine too, I just didn't know if that plug was going to restrict its growth.

It should expand and encrust over the rock.

it's on a plug, in my sand bed. It's not on a rock.

Will usually grow more like a ball shape once its at the edge of the plug. You won't get it to spread new heads in a flat shape along the snad bed if that's what you mean.

Sorry, misread. In that case I agree with SaltyWalter, it will grow in a ball, which is a cool looking shape. I am experiencing myself, I have some on the sandbed and on the rocks. Just wanted to see the shapes they would take.
