If acans lose color how do we get them to color back up?

My rainbow acans lost their color and were bleaching a bit. I lowered them to the bottom of the tank out of direct light and they are coloring up. I also have been feeding mysis shrimp and that has really helped. Even as they lost color they continued to grow. So low light and feed.
