Acans?

Well, I have been in the hobby for 2-3 years, and have just finally started to get an interest in acans.

Just a few questions, I know that there are probably a hundred different kinds of acans, but in general, what kind of care do they need?

Are they ok with tanks PC lighting?

Do they grow fast?

Are they similar to the brain corals?

Thank you in advance.

They are really easy to take care of IME. They will grow under PC's but not as fast if they were under halide. Growth rates very on water conditions, lighting, water changes, and spot feeding but for the most part mine all grow very quicklt. Pretty similar to a brain coral only meatier IMO. Pretty simple beautiful coral to take care of. Let me know if you have any other questions.

i have pc lights and i spot feed my acan lord mysis shrimp and they love it, they have super sticky tentacles imo and they suck the shrimp right down.

at first it didn't work well for me, what i needed to do was get a bit of juice in the water to get there feeder tentacles nice and open and then spot feed beach polyp.

they then plump up real big and look great. I only do this maybe once a week, to avoid excess nutrients in the water.

jessp - thanks heaps ive been looking for that info for ages, i have been trying to spot feed with no success so thanks again.

glad to help, im sure that others will have opinions as well, i'm no expert that works for me though, thanks

Thanks alot guys I think I am going to try some acan, I have seen some pretty mean colonys of Acan. I have a great tank and keep up on water changes so I think the acan will be a wonderful addition to the tank.

tried feeding today, made my own food mix today and it worked pretty well, didnt get all the mouths fed maybe half but i needed to get more food smell around the polyps i think to get the feeder tenticles out.

i think its just gonna take some training.

thanks again.
