Accidently Dropped a Screw into tank? Is this a problem?

So, while trying to save time on a job I accidently dropped a 1" drywall screw into my 75 gallon reef. Is this going to be a problem as I cannot find it.

Thanks,

Dave

I would find it and get it, they use garbage material for them and they will rust, that alone isn't gonna be good, and not knowing the exact compund it could contain some lethal compounds. I've seen a screw take down a freshwater tank in just a few weeks.

I second the need to remove...... unless you know the composition of the metal.... there are too many bad things that could happen.

take the in the tank side of ta cleaning magnet and gently run it across the sand. if it is in the rock you may need a magnet or grabber tool(mechanic stuff not aquarium). i have all these for example, but i wouldn't put them in my tank. i have an extra tank mag and the tools are cheap at harbor freight.

I tried to use the magnet cleaner and a magnet retriever, but I can't find it. I guess I don't have a choice but to leave it. Kind of sucks. When I can I will get a poly filter.

I wouldn't worry about it. GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide) is basically rust, so your rusty screw may help reduce your phosphates. lol

personally, i would take it out. i have read about too many horror stories about tank crashes and come to find out it was a screw or a nail or something stupid that fell into the tank.
