acclimating new corals/fish and lights

Well, I am just now getting into corals and stuff and have some questions. How do you acclimate a new coral. Do you float the bag and then drip acclimate like you do with fish? Then, how do you adjust them to the new lighting? I was just curious about this and wanted to do the right thing. Also, does the lighting matter when you put in a new fish? I have always just kept the lights off for a day, then let a lot of sunlight in the room, then turned on the lights. Any tips or tricks? THANKS

P.S.-- I can not raise/lower my lights; they are drilled into my canopy...

i float for 10-15 min...slowly add tank water over 15-20 min...and place them in the tank

as for lighting i leave the actinics on for one day and then 10k the next then back to normal

I normal just float them for 15min then slowly add water from a turkey blaster with tank water for 30 mins and then I add the corals and the fish. Im only worried about coral when introducing them to lights I start the on the bottom or middle depending on the coral. Then I work them up over a couple of days.

the acclimateing method is the same between corals and fish. the only thing diff. is lighting as you know. for fish it is a good idea to release them when the lights are off but other than that no need for any other way. as for corals most ppl will start the coral at the bottom and work them up to the spot of their choice over a few weeks, or you can put a few layers ofwindow screening over the tank and remove one layer at a time every week, and lastly and my fav. start your lighting off at 1/2 the time then add another hour to the lighting once a week till you get to your normal lighting period
