Acclimating new fish

The other day I purchased a Midas Blenny from our favorite LFS. Day one was pretty bad as the snails were all circling the guy as he layed motionless. I thought it was a done deal. However, during the next couple of days the guy has started to become come lively and I have seen him swimming around the tank freely as long as I'm not in the room.

My only concern is that I haven't seen him eat during feeding times. Can it be he is eating algae or something from the water column? I'm thinking about getting a syringe and spot feeding him as he hides when he sees me at the moment. Any other suggestion would be fantastic as I would hate to see this absolutely beautiful fish not make it.

Curently I'm feeding frozen Mysis Shrimp.

Well, luckily this guy started eating on it's own. Just now starting to venture out into the water column while I'm in the room too. What a beautiful fish. Cool personality too. She has all sorts of hiding places and if I come into the room I often get sand spat at me.

yes they are nice fish...i have one and it is out all day now...was slow at first like yours but is everywhere now...

Well, I just found my Midas Blenny on the hardwood floor this evening :(

It was the prettiest fish I have seen and I really enjoyed it's swimming motion and how it hid in the rocks. The fish quickly won me over as my favorite. I read they were known jumpers but I never noticed that tendancy at all. Also, it has completely acclimated to my tank, ate anything I put in, etc.

Lesson learned, my new tanks will have a screen or canopy of them to help keep the fish in the water. But still, I hate to see this guy gone...

I have seen the second thread posted before and fully intended to do that on my upcoming tanks. Last time I checked the thread, no one knew of a good place to find a nice mesh. Clear mesh with relatively small holes, I'm thinking 1/8" grid (+/-).

Anyone else interested in doing the mesh cover? If so, and if we could find a supplier online we could split up the cost some if indeed they only sell it by the large rolls.
