Acclimating sponges?

You can, but don't need to. I have enough to know that it doesn't hurt to just put them right in. But put the whole bag in, then open it underwater and put the sponge in. That keeps air from getting in.

Corals doesnt really need to acclimate.

Sponges are not corals and can benefit more from acclimation than corals because they are filter feeders. It is not necessary however because the sponges are not prone to problems with new or changing water parameters.
 
Sorry for resurrecting this and the possible stupid question, but doesn't anyone worry about the tank water the sponge was in originally when you unleash that into your system? I'm very very hesitant to do that with any water, much less from a LFS.
