Acclimating

Hmm. I know I have been acclimating my fish/corals/inverts wrong... So far the inverts have all survived. I think the corals were shocked for a while, but are still going. Anyhow, what is the safest/best method of acclimating.

I haven't tried the drip method, but I feel this is the safest and best way to go.

the BEST method to acclimate fish is to match your QT salinity with the store. float the bag for 15min to match temperature and then drop the fish in. You can then slowly adjust the salinity to your DT's.

if you don't QT.. I prefer drip method. This forum suggest at most 30-45min for fish. Reason is because of ammonia builds up after 2 days of shipping. If you bought your fish at a local fish store, you can drip a little longer.

inverts like snail, I usually just temp acclimate and drop it in (according to the websites I bought it from). shrimps, clams, starfish I drip acclimate for 2hrs..

corals, I just temperature acclimate, dip for 10-15min, then drop it in the tank

Oh. The corals aren't as sensative then? I read that they should be acclimated for 2hrs to an hour min.

I used to just throw in my shrimp. :|.
