acclimating

Generally when you add a new creature to your tank they advise to leave the lughts off for the remainder of the day - this is mainly to reduce stress in your new animal and to keep residnet fish from nipping becasue it indicates night time and time to sleep - lets the new guy get settled without having to watch his back.

I don't think it's overly necessary with a nen though - maybe leave them off for an hor or two - but the nem will need the light on to be able to find where he wants to perch for his new home.

I'd leave em off for the remainder of the day. But I also make my purchases about an hour before lights out on my tank. I do this intentinally so I don't have to cut out any lighting hours for everyone else in the tank, while still providing a darker less stressful envirment to acclimate over to.

depends on what i'm putting in. i usually turn them off for about 4 hours. with new fish or inverts, i turn the actinics back on after an hour or so. seems to work for me. for new corals i leave the lights off for at least 4 hours.
