I bought an Achilles Tang from LiveAquaria last week. It arrived on March 1 with a spot on his right pectoral fin. It looks like fungus to me, but I'm not sure. I am doing TTM with 10 gallon tanks. Here's my process so far:
TTM1 - No treatment, to make sure it was eating and acting fine.
TTM2 - PraziPro
50min Formalin Bath
TTM3 - API Erythromycin (trying to treat the spot on his fin)
50min Formalin Bath
TTM4 - API Erythromycin
During TTM3 and TTM4 I have not noticed the spot reducing in size, so I don't think the Erythromycin has helped. Is there something else I can try while I'm still in TTM since it's much easier to treat in the small tanks, than when I move him to a 40 breeder? Maybe it is not a fungus, but something else? There haven't been any signs of disease other than this spot on his fin.
1. How old is this aquarium? Normal TTM tanks, new saltwater for each transfer.
2. If less than six months old, what is ammonia level? Does not apply, TTM.
3. What is SG of this aquarium? How measured? 1.020-1.022, hydrometer.
4. When was the last fish added to this aquarium? Does not apply, TTM.
5. Was it quarantined? If so, how? And how long? Was it prophylactically treated? How? TTM, description of treatment is above.
6. If you are using a copper based medication, which one? How often do you measure level? When? I do not use copper.
7. If you are using hyposalinity, how did you calibrate your refractometer? Not used.
8. Please describe in detail, the appearance of the fish? If there is one or more pimples, are they lumpy? What color? 1 large "glob" on the right pectoral fin. The spot is white/cloudy color.
9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish? The fish is active. It does shy away to the back of the tank when going into the room. Very enthusiastic when food is presented, nearly eating out of my hand already.
10. Is the fish eating? What? He is eating well. PE Mysis once daily. At first I was adding nori which he would peck at, but not eat much. I've stopped nori the past couple transfers since it tends to get messy in a 10 gallon.
Any help would be appreciated. I'll try to include a picture, but it's not the best quality.
