Achilles Tang Juvenile

Hello

I have a Achilles tang it is a juve. It is in my 55 gallon QT tank. The fish started scratching up against the power heads. The next day it was covered with tiny white salt like dots all over body. I had some Pointex by Aquamedic. It is copper. Absolutely Fish recommended this product as it does not require measuring levels. The dose is 10ml every other day for a total of 9 days. On the last day it suggests a 25% water change. This is the third day of the cycle actually second day of medicating. I notice the white dots seem to be more pronounced. The fish does not look terrible. It is swimming and is not breathing fast. I tried feeding some nori. I am not sure if it is hitting it.

Question: Has anyone used Pointex before? My Achilles shares the tank with a pair of baby platinum percula clowns. Fish looked totally happy I have no idea how it got icy. How do I know if this is icy and not velvet?

How does it not require measuring level?

Does it precipitate 100% each day?

Is 10 ml per day the dose for your tank volume?

I know of no drug that will eradicate ich, which seems to be what you have, in 9 or 10 days.

Perphaps I mispoke. One of the sales guys gave his opinion. He said that measuring copper is difficult and inaccurate from his point of view. He likes the pointed because it is dosed every other day. I have a 55 gallon tank and the dose for my tank is 10 ml every other day. I am on day four( no dosing today) the fish is still hanging in there. I am hoping for the best:dance:

Make sure it is eating then try cupramine slowly. I treated 2 achilles with cupramine without issue for 21 days.

Try mysis, pellets, flakes, brine, nori, etc...

Pointex, as I remember, doesn't even claim to eradicate ich, just control it. This isn't good enough. The instructions for this med make no sense. First, remove the Pointex with good carbon or a Poly (the brand name) filter. Read at at least the initial posts of the ich stickies above. Its hard to treat ich if you don't understand its life-cycle. Get some Cupramine and a SeaChem or Salifert copper test kit. Let us know when you're ready. There are ways to use Cupramine that make it safer and just as effective as the bottle directions. Make sure you have no rock or substrate in the QT. What are you using for filtration in the QT?
Re, your question: The fish got ich because a fish brought ich into the tank. This is the only ich can infect a fish. Achillies are very difficult fish and very prone to ich. If this were velvet, not ich, the fish would probably be dead. Cupramine will eliminate either. You need to hurry with this, fish may look OK, but that will likely change soon. If the white spots disappear; this is common and doesn't mean the ich is gone.

yeah he is rubbing on the powerhead because he has ick poor achillies my favorite tang! let us know how he turns out. goodluck
