ACIII vs ACIIIPro Question

It comes preconfigured for the DOC and conductivity probes. But they have a probe expansion modules due this coming month and since I don't use it now anyway, that should give the future option. It will control 10 more devices I believe. With the probe expansion added I believe the number of devices will be the only difference. Other than that I'm tagging along for curiosity since I am ordering in the next couple days.

I noticed doing a side-by-side comparison that the ACIIIPro has 4 external switch inputs, whereas the ACIII only has 2. I think that 2 is all I need for controlling auto-topoff, unless someone can explain a need for having 4.

Also, you stated that the ACIIIPro will control 10 more devices, how many devices can the ACIII control?

Thanks,

Mike

20 for the regular and 30 for the pro. Also the screen is bigger I almost forgot that. I think most will use the computer connection to program and manage the ac's anyway so the screen size is irrelevant to me anyway.

I hadn't either even though I was all over thier website, I though,,,, then on another thread someone pointed that out.

Here is how I can see using 4 switched inputs:

1. Switch in skimmer collection cup to prevent flooding
2. Switch in skimmer remote collection jug to prevent flooding
3. Switch in the sump to prevent flooding.
4. Switch in the sump to prevent pump from burning out incase of leak.

Or at least how I plan to use the switched inputs.

With 2 of them I plan on doing a sump level with a backup on a single input (see diy forum for a dual switch single signal) on my reef tank and my freshwater tank so it will take up 2. My skimmer overflows to a salt bucket which has a wet alarm on the lid that goes off right now but I'm going to build a scrum? bucket that seals itself and stops the skimming when it fills so I won't need any signaling from that. But as I'm playing around setting up things may change. That's my plan for now though.

I do like that idea for a dual switch single signal, that frees up a switch slot :) But as for a "scrum bucket" as you call it, my skimmer dosnt shut off when the bucket seals itself (I am assuming you have one of those snazzy pressure beckett systems?). When my jug is full, the skimmer keeps on going. My jug also isnt a sealed unit so I do have an over flow possibility.

I don't know if it will stop completely but if I pinch the drain hose the foam level goes down quite a bit and the linear piston air pump gets noisier. It's just a 7 ft diy cc skimmer. But I do have a pretty tight seal on the cap of the skimmer collection cup. The scrum bucket I make will have to have a good tight seal and the ping pong ball floater to seal the hole.

Pure genious!
Please PM when you get around to doing this.
I'd love to integrate those same exact inputs into my system.

Nice looking setup! Very compact and functional. I tend to spread my stuff out too much. That almost looks like an xray control panel under the sump on the left!

I can post the url to the thread where Kattner made his switch box when I get home (I have it book marked). It was a simple project box that had 4 toggle switches and 4 mini stereo jack recepticals. He then added a mini stereo jack to the end of each float switch.

Yea, as you see in the picture I've already made a 12-switch control panel (right side of picture/control box door is open) that is connected to remote/satellite power boxes higher up on the wall. It's going to be tricky but I want to interface that control box with my DC8. That way I'll have auto AND manual control of each circuit. Another project for another day I suppose.

You're right. My whole system is plumbed into my garage above the washer/dryer and garage sink.

The sump shelf is completely water proof and construced more like a bathtub of sorts...so everything simply drains into the sink below.
Me likes them 2-minute water changes :D
