Acro keepers - those who do not feed

oligotrophic

New member
hello everyone,

has anyone observed mortality in Acro commensal crabs where the tank is 100% not fed with food (inclusive of both feeding directly e.g. GPs or feeding indirectly via feeding the fish)

Thanks

I really don't think there is anyone here who doesn't feed the tank in some way, I think just about everyone keeps fish in their tanks, and many feed the GP's and Cyclop-Eeze too.

From what I understand you are looking for people who don't feed at all the fish or corals right? as in no food entering the tank whatsoever?

I think he may be referring to people who do not target feed corals with any Phyto, Golden Pearls, etc.

Yea, I don't feed my acros and my commensal crabs were dead within a week...not sure why. Probably because the vendor didnt feed either

Hi kozmo02,

Thanks for replying:

yeah, I'm looking for people who don't feed all the fish and corals as in totally no food entering the tank, yes that's it.

anyone out there who did this and observed any losses to the commensal crabs?

I'm running an experiment to observe zooxanthella shift and pigmentation development under very low nutrient conditions

The tank is now in day 3.

Cheers

Hi SunnyX,

yeah, I used to feed GPs and E. Borneman's 'mush' etc, and am a proponent of feeding as the available amount of Zooplankton and what not I believe in the wild conditions are much more than the captive environment.

But I'm curious this time for the other way round -- as in totally no food addition and very low nutrient water.

Btw, nice tank you have :eek1:
