I have a 150 wide 48x30x24 acrylic aquarium with an external overflow. I love the tank, but the guy that made it is nervous about the tank. It is made with wedon 42 and 1/2" acrylic. I'm wondering whst people think about weldon 40/42 and 1/2" acrylic. From what I've seen it should hold. What are peoples thoughts on this. All seems were left open and filled with 20 mils or more of weldon 42.

Do you have the tank? Go to the IPS website and check out the strength on that glue. I'm not and expert by any means. Have you filled it yet outside? That would be the easiest way to tell. You definitely have a better shot with nice clear seems no matter what.

I just checked their website. Weldon 4 which is typically used to build tanks and sumps has a bond strength of 2000 psi after 24 hours and 2500 psi after 1 week. Weldon 42 has a bond strength of 2600 psi after 24 hours and 4000 psi after 1 week. I I don't know what strength is needed for a large tank like that but hopefully one of the acrylics experts will chime in. There are a few very informative threads in here. Also check out melevsreef.com.
