Acrylic paint application to dried rocks

Can someone tell me if there's any problem painting dry rock with acrylic paint to mimic red/pink reef rock?

For a reef tank or for a shelf decoration? It would have to be reef safe if for submersion.

You can buy manmade rock that is already red/purple. Real Reef Rock is the brand I believe.
