acrylic sump issues....help....possible to make opening wider???

I just picked up an asm g4x with recirc and gate valve.
It fits in my standard 100g tank/sump. The problem I am having is I want to put the recirc pump against the wall to hold it firmly in place
and I can't twist the skimmer around in the tank bc the openings are not large enough and the recirc pump hits the wall.

what woukd resolve this problem is to make the opening holes on the top of the tank larger.

question.

if I make the holes a little wider, will this effect the structual integrity of the tank?

second, if it does not negagtivily effect the tank, how would I make the holes wider...dremmel?

third, does anyone in the Glendale area have the proper equipment do do this and will either help me do it or let me borrow their tools.

Thanks

Is your sump acrylic? You should be able to trim some since a sump is not full like a tank. A router is the easiest way. If you trim off much, you could glue on a cross brace near the cut out area.

Mike I think you are overthinking things man. If its to hold the recirc pump up in place just get a piece of styrofoam and cut to appropriate size and sit it under the sedra pump till you have it perpindicular to the skimmer.

It shouldn't assuming you leave some bracing and don't cut too much off.

A router would work better, but it may be difficult to make straight cuts on an existing tank.
