Acrylic Tank Locally?

Just gonna throw this one out there...

Anyone have an acrylic tank they're looking to part with? I would prefer something in the 125 to 200 gallon range. I am thinking I want to try an acrylic with a closed loop.

Giving up on the 125g already? Let me know if you want to sell it, my brother may be interested in it. Sorry, I don't know of an acrylic tank for sale currently, but I will keep my eye out. What happened with the 300g shark stock tank?

The 125 is a great size, I'm just afraid to drill it. I'm hoping to find a similar acrylic, because I'd like to really amp up the flow. The Shark tank may or may not get sharks. I am definately doing the tank, just not sure on the occupants. I also saw on the TSC website, that the 300 stock tank is only about $50 less than the 625 gal stock tank, so who the hell knows! Should start building in the next month or so, provided I can get the thing through the basement door!

625g!!! Go for it! That would be awesome! Is it still a round circle tank? That could be your FO system and the 125g would then be the reef. Maybe some RC members can drill the tank for you?

It's an 8ft round tank, just about twice as deep. Which is good because I couldn't fill it to the brim anyway. The question is, how much give does one of these things have? My doors are only 6'9". If it had a little bend, it might work, but if it's rigid, I'd have to go for the smaller size (6'). I need to do some research on whether I can keep some of my current fish with a shark. Notably, the humu humu. The Tang would be OK, and the rabbitfish. The rest might get eaten. We shall see. I am considering using the 125 for a fuge. Any thoughts?

hi Jo, I've seen those 8 foot poly tanks at tractor supply before. pretty rugged. i dont think there would be 15 inches of give on them . the sides are pretty much vertical, the bottom wont give much but measure the slope of the sides. maybe enough to bend in the door. but i really dont think so.

Yeah, I don't think that is going to give to fit thru the door. Do you have a sliding back door to your basement? You could take that all the way off and it should fit thru there. That is a cool idea though, pretty cheap. I still think a pond liner would be the way to go. You could frame it out any size you want, and don't have to worry about getting it thru the door. The 125g would be a great fuge. But if you were looking to get rid of the 125g, let me know, I or my brother may be interested. Keep us updated on what you do. Good luck!

It seems that there is a difference in the products here. The 300 gal tank is the stiff black stuff. The 625 looked to me like a plastic tank, maybe with more give? We'll see. Either way, it should be exciting!

With 625 gallons I think I would want less "give".

Even with the cinder block idea that would be a lot of pressure pushing out. You would need to reinforce the wall with cross braces and rebar.

I also remember this Link

He built a 1700 gallon shark tank out of wood

I'm trying to accomplish two things.

1. Leakproof tank
2. Easy tank

That's my reasoning for thinking about the stock tank. It looks like it'll have to be the small one, but it should still hold a couple of hundred gallons.

yeah, if you want a semi round tank, bigger than the door, do a lumber and frame build hex tank to the max dimension you want and line with pond liner. it will fold neatly in the direcion on the circular flow.

and for a little extra insurance, put a poly coated stainless steel sail boat rigging cable around the top and bottom ribs tightened with turnbuckles to keep them from kicking out. the liner is flexible and will give. and keep it safe. 2 feet deep is low pressure.

they have something like a 10 x 16 shark tank built like that at Aquarium Center store in jersey in the fish room. or the big petting pond at TFP, with bricks and liner.
