Acrylic Tank minor bowing

Hi folks,

New to the forums and have a quick question. I picked up a tank a while back in order to do a rework of my main system in the kitchen....wife doesn't appreciate buckets and small tanks all over the house so I had to get something out of sight out of mind for a while.

its a roughly 90-100G Acrylic tank - 60 (L) x 20 (H) x 18 (W)...1/4 inch acrylic braced pretty heavily at the top just 2 20x10 cut outs...the front and side panels are all one piece (rounded corners), back is flat 90' degree angle seam...

its been up and running in my garage for about a month or so while I do some work on my main system which required a drain and refill.

I happened to be out there moving some stuff around tonight and noticed that it actually has a pretty good bow in the center of the back panel ...its not at the top or bottom but more in the middle of the back panel. no leaks or crazing that I can see. The top and bottom are arrow straight if I lay a long level from end to end. If I lift the level to the middle, its about a quarter inch difference from side to side to get the level flat on either end....

I've always been a glass guy so I don't know if this is 'normal' for acrylic...initially I wasn't planning on keeping this thing around for more than a couple of months but recently I'd kicked around the idea of leaving it setup for extra space...now seeing this, I'd say I'm terrified ;p Its in a room in the garage that is finished so a flood would be a nightmare...

Here is the questions for you acrylic folks...should I take a deep breath and chalk this up to a learning experience and its fine for acrylic, or should I be out there with pumps and buckets emptying this thing like NOW. Am I safe to keep it setup for another couple weeks (probably a month with the holidays coming) while I finish the main tank work? I am guessing keeping it long term is probably out of the question?

I haven't put a straight edge to my acrylic tank, but it does have a pretty decent bow on it. I'd say its normal what you're seeing.

Personally, I wouldn't put that tank in a finished area. 3/8" would be about as thin as I would trust on a tank that size.

It will probably hold... but I would lose sleep at night.

bowing acrylic

that is not good.
I had a 150 gal acrylic that I had to empty and move for a room remodel; when I put it back in the newly remodeled family room with wood flooring and began to fill it, I noticed the back wall bowing at half-full. Less than 10 minutes later the whole thing blew out, water everywhere, including the remodeled area, and the basement below. Over 10K in damage.
Dump that thing, you won't regret it.
