Acrylic to Rigid PVC Sheet Glue

Hi, I am working on a few DIY projects (sulphur denitrator, calcium reactor, etc) and was planning to use rigid sheet PVC for most of the parts since it taps really well and then use acrylic tubing (6" & 8") The problem I have run into is gluing the acrylic to PVC. Weld-on says #16 will work. I tried that the first go around and it seemed to hold. I then was working on a second part that was also acrylic to pvc and took it to my router table to route flush and the pvc just broke off clean from the acrylic. There was no fusing into the PVC, it was still smooth just as if I had not glued it. So I figured I would get #40. I glued up two parts last night and it looked like a good bond. I also glued a couple of scraps together, an acrylic to pvc joint and a pvc to pvc joint just for fun. Tonight I was able to break apart the pvc to pvc with little effort and again there was no surface fusing, it was like I had never put glue on it. I then tried to break apart the acrylic to pvc scrap and it broke with some effort. It held better than the #16 though. Now I am concerned that the reactor is not going to last and one little bump its going to come apart. Any ideas on why it is not holding or recommendations on other adhesives?

Thanks

I've used Oatey All Purpose cement to glue disparate plastics together with sucess. Be sure both surfaces are clean. I would rough up the surface right where the joint is with a wire brush or emery cloth.

maybe the mold release on pvc is still there? i have had decent luck with weld on 16 and pvc but i never tryed to put a router up to my fittings neather

WO #40 will give you the best bond between pvc/acrylic.#16 will work but not nearly as well as the 40.

You might try Weld-On #10 or #45 - they specifically made for bonding disparate materials... PVC, ABS, polycarbonates, acrylics, metals. They are not clear, however - 10 is white and 45 is tan.

I think you guys might have been right. I wiped the surfaces down just with a clean rag before I glued them the first time. This time I glued up another test piece with WO #40 but sanded both surfaces with 400 grit sand paper. I tried breaking apart the test joint tonight and snapped the plastic off right before the joint. I cannot believe how much of a difference it made
