Acrylic Top and MH

Hey guys. I was wondering if it is a good idea to put an Acrylic cover over my tank? I am running MH lights and don't know if this will have any impact on your advice. The reason I want to put a cover over my tank is so that no fish jump out. Thanks guys

It will reduce the amount of light that gets into your tank, and you will have a lot of cleaning to do to keep it "clear".

It will also increase tank temp due to reduced evaporation.

My recent melting experience also comes to mind, but I'm not sure if that would happen with acrilyc. Just something to think about.

Hhhmmm, the only fish I'm really worried about jumping out would be my Firefish. About how much light reduction are we talking about here. I'm running a 400W MH (about 10 inches above the surface) and 2-54W PCs in a 55G tank. Do you have any other suggestions on a way I can keep him from jumping?

If you have to put something between the light and the tank i'd go w/ netting that's used for outdoor pond to keep the birds for eating your fish.

It's basically like monofilament net.

I'll find a pic
