I was wanting to have something to do this weekend so I thought I would try to make a HOB overflow. Problem is everyone I have called about acrylite thinks I am crazy lol....which I already knew. Where is a good place around here to get it or is there something else I can use? Help I am boooooooored !!!!

Thanks

no, i have a spot i can get that but on the DIY thread they say to use Acrylite because it dont yellow or turn brittle, heck i dont know one from the other to be honest. What did you make yours out of Harry?

If I were trying to build a 200 gallon tank I might hunt something like Acrylite. For things like overflow boxes and calcium reactors I use Home Depot acrylic. If an overflow box turns yellow you'd never know it. It will turn pink and purple with coralline first.

I agree with H@rry on this.. No reason at all to hunt down a specific brand for small projects..That said I dont use acrylic from lowes or home depot.. Its about the cheapest extruded acrylic you can buy.. Not a big deal, But if you get it from a normal shop that sells acrylic its about the same pice and Much better Acrylic.. You can get 1/4 Cast Acrylic for about the same as what Lowes and home deopot sell their cheap stuff for..

LOL btw for what its worth.. I'd just drill the tank and not even worry about the HOB

ok ok ok fine i just didnt want to tear this frigin thing down to drill the holes.

lol, If the big problem is where to put everything. I've got a 100 Gallon livestock tank I use for nothing but the fish tanks and fish pond.. Its what I use if I have to take a tank down. Your welcome to barrow it. It would probably hold everything you have and its made to hold water unlike the rubbermaid stortage bins some people try to use..

the other thing is moving this big ole thing, ill have to figure out how to move it. i was thinking about drilling it then caping the bulkheads till i got the rest of the stuff, i have a pond pump that would be ok for the return pump wouldnt it.

I've watched Yoda drill a couple of tanks that are partially drained, with fish and corals still in them. I know it's best to empty a tank to drill, but it's obviously doable to do it the way Yoda did unless you are trying to drill way down on the side or on the bottom of the tank.

i just want to drill it to set up the sump i am building since i havent had one since i started this, so i am assuming they will be high in the tank back wall .....

oh bye the way, i found a place in b-ham that stocks the acrylite for a 4x8 of 1/8 its 56 dollars and 1/4 is 102 dollars just in case someone else is looking for it. I have the name and number if anyone wants it.
