Activated carbon

what are you using for activated carbon or how do you keep the ocean smell down (besides fabreeze.. sneeze :debi:)

Hi. If you are talking about activated carbon in the tank, I use ROX 0.8. I get mine from BRS but others sell it too. It seems to work well for a wide variety of organics without much fines/dust. Just clogs quickly, but that reminds me to change it.

If you are talking about activated carbon for the air outside the tank for smells (you mentioned Febreeze) I don't have a recommendation but you can buy bags that recharge in sunlight.

both, Ive used BRS before and have some petco stuff that Im using at the moment (discovered it in my FW stuff). What would you suggest for the air around the tank

I don't have a suggestion for the air, my tank doesn't smell that I'm aware of so I haven't tried to address that before. I guess my suggestion would be to try to figure out where the smell is coming from and fix that if possible.

the smell is from no water change in 15 months... and no carbon until 10 days ago...

for the air I was curious if there was a solution. its a small home so occaisionally it smells like the ocean, nothing some spicy cooking and open door/windows wont fix.

Lol

You could try the activated carbon bag air fresheners I mentioned, they seem to work ok around our cat's litter box and are easy. I've also seen fan driven air purifiers with activated carbon filter pads, that would probably work well.

Plus running some carbon inside the tank :)

Try the seachem matrix carbon they are round sheets so don't clog as easy in reactors.
