Adding a few rocks to the system..

The best way to add a few new rocks is to acid bathe them and then rinse them really well. Do I need to run them in salt water for a while and seed them somehow or can I just put them into the tank or sump at that point?

I've actually never tried to really carefully do this before.

I'm thinking it's safe to put them into the display tank. I wouldn't expect them to algae bloom or anything because they should be acid bathed.

What kind of rock? Dried out live rock or like brs old rock/ marco rock.

Really good question. Most of it is from someone else's system and it's been in RODI water for about a month. I never dried it out.

test the RO water for Phosphates and nitrates. If both are zero, you should be okay to add straight to the tank without acid washing it.

That's a really interesting idea. I'll phosphate test the water it's in. I would be really surprised if the phosphate number is 0, but we'll see!

If it's not I'd add the rocks over a period of time so you don;t start a mini cycle.
