Adding "mini" package to current tank?

Have a 60 cube that has been up and running for about 9 months. Have about 25 pounds of rock and a 2" sandbed.

Everyone is currently happy... Clown, Chromis, firefish, star and few little softies.

Wondering if adding something like a 40 gallon package to this tank would endanger my current livestock - or if the best bet would be to setup a 40 gallon tank to cycle and mature the package then transfer to the current tank.

Any suggestions?

You should be fine adding to the tank....we do that all the time to established tanks. This is real live rock and sand, no cycle issues. I would not add any more sand....2 inches is plenty...
 
Richard - placed a small order for some rock to add to existing tank - I'm sure the storm has you busy - just wanted to make sure the order did go through.

25 pounds - requested delivery on Saturday, Sep[t 10th to ATL if that is a possibility.

got it...waiting for the gulf to clear up after the hurricane...soon as I can dive....will advise!

50 lbs arriving Saturday. Going in a 60 cube & 20 long that are plumbed into a 40 breeder common sump.

Few pictures from today in case I forget to put up before / after pics. (Sorry about the crappy iPhone pics)

Both tanks setup with Bean Animal with DIY acrylic overflows - C2C on the cube and about 18" on the 20.

Return pump is Jebao DCS-7000 running at about 80% - probably gonna need a bigger pump.

Will be looking to go better on the skimmer soon as well - LifeReef or MTC most likely.



 
Rock arrived - in perfect condition and is currently in the fuge / sump.

Quite a few snails and crabs and this.....



Can anyone identify it?

I'll upload more photos as things get arranged / identified / put in permanent place etc.

Has to be at least one Mantis in here because there is a good amount of very distinct clicking going on.






 
Looks like a pregnant toad fish.....lol....on vacation in Atlanta......pretty cool to get a fish in your live rock, then you know you got REAL live rock....

The pops....if you don't see a mantis, they are pistol shrimp...and a pistol you will seldom ever see!

Glad you got your shipment! Very interesting hitchhiker you have there.

Here is my pistol that came in on Richard's rock, he is about 2"-2.5" long. Need to get him a Goby. Pretty cool watching him tear up a Krill.

I'll be spending a good amount of time "searching" for all the hidden stuff - I put a bottle trap in just for the sake of seeing if I would catch anything interesting.
 
Talk about attitude. One f the Gorilla crabs - body about the size of a nickel - actually reached out and grabbed a pair of tongs. Tried to grab him so I could put in the sump and rather than retreat he attacked! Still didn't get him though. Don't want to hurt him.

I'm pretty sure the toadfish is eating pieces of shrimp finally.

He is becoming more comfortable - he'll grab a piece of shrimp almost from the tongs if I get it in front of his face.

Typically only comes out when lights are low - not when it's completely dark though.
