Adding new sand over established sand

I have sugar sand in my 125 long that has been running for about a year. And of course I need to add a bit of sand, would it be OK to add a larger grain sand over the sugar sand? It is currently a ssb.

If you are just adding 2-3 mm top coat I would go ahead and put it in a and mix it into your existing top. If it is a more substantial amount than I would split it into 4-8 sections to allow the micro-fauna and bacteria to repopulate their appropriate levels of the sandbed.

^^ there's alot of stuff in that sand that needs to "breath"

Perfectly fine.

The way i do this is . Rinse the sand well in buckets.. Pour it wet in large freezer bags.. Put the bags in the bottom of the aquarium and unzip them . Cut a slit in the bottom of the bag and Roll it slowly over . this keeps sand storm to a Minimum ..
