I currently run a 180g with 45g refug, chaeteo in the refug, blah, blah. In a separate room we have a tank with fish only (some fish we have had for many years that are not reef safe so they are kept in a separate tank. I am planning to add a second (90g +) tank next to the 180 and pump them together and grow out the fish-only tank with various plants.
The question has to do with the existing refugium. I suspect that if I start growing plants in one of the show tanks that it might suck the life out of the plants in the refug so I was thinking that I would need to move the refug plants into the 2nd show tank. At the same time I thought that maybe I should keep the planted refug since it runs off-cycle lighting and would still help to keep PH stabe in the night hours. Anyone have any suggestions here? Do you think I can keep both refug and tank as planted tanks of will one fight the other?
