Adding sand?

Im looking to add sand to my 38 gal reef tk. It is a bare bottom and I cant stand the way it looks. Any advice on making this a little less painless?

Your going to have a mess no matter what you do. Just cut the bag open, hold it shut untill you get to the bottom and spread it out. I would turn the pumps off and it should all settle in a few hours.

This is what I did:

1. Wash the sand thoroughly with RO water.
2. Pour the sand into the tank by using a PVC pipe to avoid creating a sandstorm and guide the sand to a specific location or hard to reach area.
3. Only add a few handfuls of sand to your tank each day to ensure no abruptly change to the water.

Thanks guys good idea on the pipe. What kind od change to the water should i look for?
