Adding water.

They recommended i used tap water + prime and then adding salt to setting up my new 110 gallon tank, but i really hate using tap water should i just call the water truck that services my LFS to bring me the salt water straight from the ocean? was that a good choice?

I suppose you could. But I'd be wary of any LFS that's giving you that kind of advice. That truck might dump sewage in your tank too. I'd invest in a good RO/DI unit. In about 6 months you'll be happy you did.

Oh no that truck person is preatty good ive seen how he gets his water, he waits for high tie and go preaty deep in to get it, hes preaty known and people give good feed back about him, as far as an RO/DI unit i have one but it does like 35 gallons a day and i was thinking good sea water was better then doing the mix.

Yes, RO/Di---fill a 45g trash can and some 5g gas cans and you will never worry about water---just get a TDS meter and change filters when needed, usually every 6 months.

seawater can be quite a bit worse than tap water. In vancouver the tap water is very soft but the ocean water is a bit of a crapshoot based on tides and whatnot-although I cant say Ive actually tried using it....

Id suggest tapwater. Although youre going to add unwanted TDS if youre jsut starting a tank thats nothing to worry about.

Just have your RO/DI run all day. I just fill mine up in 5 gallon buckets and have them for backup. Mine is SO slow. It takes like 2 hours to do 5 gallons, but it's worth it!

Fishy - 5 gallons in 2 hrs = 60 gallons per day. So if you have a 75 gpd membrane that would be about right, assuming you have water temps a bit below 77 degrees F, pressure at or a bit below 50 psi, and tap water at or about 250 ppm tds.

No, stay away from tapwater, especially since you already have an RO/DI. It'll take a while to fill, but you'll thank yourself later.

I second the advice for avoiding tap water. Unless you take a sample to a lab for testing you really don't know what the heck is in there. Also some tap water has copper in it from the leaching copper pipes which will crash your tank in a heartbeat, killing everything. Personally, I'd avoid tap water like the plague.
