Advantage having a Refugium ?

So I am thinking about doing an AC500 Modded Refugium and was wondering the benefits to doing this. I have a 30 gal tank, 35 lbs Live Rock, only 2 fish and some mushrooms and zoas plus a cleanup crew. My tank is almost 6 weeks old now. Would this be a big help to my setup ? I was thinking along the lines of some Live Rock rubble and some Macro Algae but i don't know what type would be best. Also would I need sand in it as well ?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks !!

It would benefit any system to add a fuge. The macro algea helps in the reduction of nitrates and phosphates and gives pods a safe place to live and multiply.

Most use Chaetomorpha as a macroalgea. Unlike Calerpa (sp) it won't go asexual and crash your tank. You will need a light over the fuge if that model dosen't come with one.

edit: BTW, I have a 2" sand bed in my fuge area.
