Advantage to mangroves?

I am setting up my new 120 reef and was thinking about growing some mangroves in my sump. Could someone tell me what I need to grow them? From what I have read you can float them with stryofoam but that might be wrong. What type of light do I need on them and what should the photoperiod be?

What benefits do mangroves provide?

Any online mangroves vendors?

Thanks

Grow them if you like how they look.

Macro is better at nutrient export

water changes are better at nurtrient export

Buy Rhizophora mangle pods from www.banana-tree.com

I have grown thousands of mangroves, so if you have anymore questions.....

To answer your question, they need bright light, lots of room to grow upwards, and a deep sand bed filled with nutrients.

What benefits do mangroves provide?

There are a few people who claim that their skimmer picked up less skimmate once they used the mangroves. I love mangroves for how they look, but my experience with them doesn't dispute this theory. My skimmer stopped picking up much skimmate after the mangroves finally put out roots and my new skimmer (which was much more powerful) didn't pick up much more either.

When I decided to upgrade from using a part of my sump as a fuge to buying a 15 gallon display tank for use as a display plant tank/fuge, I took out the contents, I removed my mangroves and the entire contents of my fuge (which consisted of some cheato and other marine plants) to the new plant tank, which had not been plumbed into the entire system yet. During this period, my skimmer picked up ALOT of skimmate, despite that I avoided feeding the tank during this period to the extent that I could. I have since connected the new plant tank to the system and the skimmate has gone back to almost zero and the water is sparkling clean.

From my totally unscientific standpoint, caluerpa and cheato seem to be much faster at removing nitrates in the water, but mangroves seem to reduce skimmate for me. For various reasons, both pragmatic and aesthetic, I run the light on my plant tank at the same time as my main tank. (I don't have much pH swings)
