Advice for lighting please

Hello Reef Central,

I need some opinions regarding my lighting choice for my JBJ 45 Gallon Tank. My tank measures 26.5x21x19. I just bought a Kessil a360W and I shared this info with my local fish store. He said "Kessils aren't bad." Not exactly what I wanted to hear after dripping $400 or so. I want to have a mixed reef tank, 60% LPS/SPS and 40-35% SPS. Is the lighting option I chose sufficient for this goal or should I get something else around that same price point?

As long as you keep the SPS on top of your rocks you'll be fine. I have 4 360's on my 170g cube and my sps are doing great.

Thats what someome told me rigt after i bought my ap700. I remember thinking thanks for the warning before the 900$.

But, i have had no trouble and enjoy them, so dont always listen to what people say I guess ��

Stop asking LFS's for advice. They just want to sell you their crap. I worked for one. Hated it. The Kessil is fine but personally, if I were you I'd return it and get a Radion xr15w pro for the same price. I'll get one for my Nano. I don't know what they do differently but I've seen numerous tanks producing good colors with them. You can control every color from your computer and program sunrise/sunset and all kinds of stuff. It's worth it.

The Kissel is a good light. I have four t5 bulbs and two radion gen 3’s over my 120.i originally had the radion by themselves and they were good but I’ve way better growth since I added the t5’s.

That light will be fine. If you keep the SPS up higher you will have no lighting issues in my opinion. I don't own one, but many ppl on here have good luck with them. The great thing about the kessil is it's LACK of controllability, meaning that the spectrum is correct. You can adjust some color and intensity. They sort of make them "dummy proof", which to me is a huge bonus! When I had LED's that could change multiple channels and colors, I could never get the color/spectrum correct. Too much this or that, not enough this or that. That was part of my frustration with the excessive controllability of them.

I only use LED because they provide great light intensity, correct light spectrum, last forever.
I hang Visparspectra 165w for each 24" cube, and I only use 50% intensity.
All for 160 bucks and that's in Camadian!
MH are great for SPS but run real hot, T5 has to be replaced every 8-10 months, so expensive.

I is2e a 360we and in conjunction with the 100 spectral controller ot is exactly what the othera have said. Dummy proof. I dont have SPS but a LPS and Anemone tank so I cant speak about that but lighting is almost ALWAYS a personal choice and once you get into the Radion amd Kessil level(s) of performance you cannot go wrong, especially on a tank of that size (I have a 29 gallon). Pay much closer attention to husbandry, parameters, flow and tank maturity (1 year plus) as opposed to lighting. You did well. Be careful, any LEDs in that category are super powerful and can be mis managed.
