Advice on 75 gallon

I am about to buy the MArineland Majesty from petsmart a great deal this week. Are these good tanks? Can I drill them? For a 75 gallon do you need two overflows or one? I am thinking maybe going with a overflow instead of drilling.

I'm not sure if the glass can be drilled. Ask the store if the back glass is tempered or not. If not you can cut it. I did an overflow box on my 75 and it was ok. I have my 40b drilled and i prefer drilled over an overflow box. With a drilled tank you don't have to worry about the siphon breaking and flooding your house with water. I also only had one overflow for my 75. Just make sure the overflow can keep up with your return pump. This is where I bought my over flow kit to drill my current tank. The tank and stand looks nice from what I can see from petco website.

I use one eshopps PF 800 overflow box with a jebao 6000 return pump on my 75 gallon tank. The overflow works great but the pump has a bit too much power for it even on the lowest setting. If I did it again I would probably go with the jebao 4000 return pump

Contact Marineland directly to find out if it's tempered or not, I wouldn't rely on a
petsmart employee's "knowledge" :lmao:

Also +1 on not using hang on overflows, those can spell disaster.

I looked on there site and someone asked the same question and they said this:

Only the bottom is tempered, any drilling totally voids your warranty.

I bought the same tank last year on black Friday for 249. I drilled the back for internal overflow. It turned out just fine. In the process of getting the tank up and running now.
:bounce2:

If your going with a hang on overflow i would strongly suggest a lifereef brand, they are the most reliable out of all imo.

I had one made buy lfs. I initially purchased a premade one on ebay but it was too short because of how I drilled the tank, so my lfs made a 6 1/2 x 4 x 7 one for me.

You can always just add a ball valve to the return line to cut it back a bit..

There are a couple different overflows available that will require tank drilling, but do that. DO NOT fall into the "over the top" crap overflows. Disasters waiting to happen. Not if, WHEN.

Do it right the first time even if it takes a few more weeks. Drilling the glass=super easy if you're patient.

I have the Ehiem compact+ 5000 and I cant turn it up at all! So I may try a ball valve. haven't got to the part of setting water height yet. but when I tested for leaks Saturday I notice it was sucking all the water out of the sump with the main drain opened all the way.
