I wanted to hear from reefers who have battled the worms and won the war.
I discovered aefw's in my tank and ended up taking the whole thing down.
I removed the infected pieces and broke the colonies off the rocks.
I started with new rocks, and a sterilized tank and sump.
In the end I lost about a half of my acros
. Most losses were to the worms,
but some were from the stress of the transfer and dipping.
I have been dipping random colonies and have seen no sign of the worms
coming back. I was even able to save a few of the infected colonies in a
QT tank. I dipped them every two weeks for two months in TMCPC till I saw
no more worms, then waited to make sure no more eggs hatched.
Those colonies were brown for quite some time, but after three weeks in the
main tank they are coloring up again.
I think I was lucky and caught the worms just in time. They came in on some
bali aquacultered colonies and only seemed to have jumped to the corals right next
to the new ac ones. My lesson learned the hard way, QT all incoming coral no matter where they come from.
