AF Marine Reef Salt: Can it be stored for several days ?

Hi

I would like to know if I can use the AF reef salt after a week of been disolved.

I know that the Probiotic Reef Salt need to be used and the left over discarded. Can't be kept in the mixing tank for several days.

Normally I prepare ~30 G every weekend, but NOT ALWAYS I used it all, there is always a left over of ~ 10 G in the mixing brute. I want to have that left over in case of an emergency. The following weekend I mix again 35G using those 10G left over. In other words there is always a leftover every week. It is working very well with Reef Crystal Salt. I want to know if I can do the same with your AF reef salt.

Thank you !!
Daniel

Interested as well. I mix 20 gallons of salt water every two weeks for my continuous water change setup, so this is important.

In another thread they (AF) suggested to not store any kind of salt....
I would think that using the reef salt while dosing Pro Bio S and perhaps Pro Bio F would yield the same effect as using the probiotic salt...
Please correct me if I am wrong but can you build up with dosing all of the components in the probiotic salt? I would also like to be able to store for a week or 10 days for my AWC.

It seems to me there is a fair bit of overlap with many of their products and I am still trying to wrap my head around the many options... maybe I should start another thread for those questions though...

I forgot to add that to my posting (quoted ) that the leftover water in the mixed tank is heated, has a power head to keep it moving and has 2 airlines, to keep it oxygenated. Ready to be used !!!.

Thank you !

Will have to wait till overnight now at this point.

Well.... I was expecting to find it this morning to do my order of AF reef Salt. It is a 6 hour difference with EU from Boston (EST)

Yesterday I returned my 3 brand new 22 kg buckets of Probiotic salt when I confirmed through this site I could not store it mixed. And I returned to my Reef Crystals salt.

It is a very simple question that AF tech team (chemistry) has to know the answer right away.

Thank you !!

I do not recommend because after a few days can begin normal biological maturation cycle (this applies to each salt)
That's why we recommend to dissolve salt 15minutes before water change.

Thank you very much for your answer !!!

Many salts, like reef crystals, can be left for days/weeks in their mixing brute. In the case of reef crystals , you need to leave it with movement and airstones. I also leave it heated. It worked very well.

I wanted to use your salt. But I will keep it with my old system. I tried 1 month the probiotic salt, but it is an issue for me to be able to use it fresh. That is my problem due to my working schedule.

Thanks again !
Daniel

@Nemodan you can use probiotic reef Salt but after 24h all bateria could die and you will not benefit from this Salt. As about the reef Salt You can use it also like you use IO there will be no difference. What we are say it is not good to keep any Salt for to long because life will start in this water after few days that all. There is not something special in Reef Salt that will not allow you to use IT and other Salt you can. It is a general rule that is not recomended to keep Salt water for too long.

These are GREAT NEWS !!!!

I was wondering this week why we can not have the AF reef salt stored in the mixing brute like many reefers !!! Does for their salts mixtures.

If you go to the Neptune (Apex) forum site online (not the one at RC) , you will be astonish how many reefers do "continue water changes" since Neptune rolled out the DOS dosing system. In those cases water is kept for days/weeks , just for 1-2 G daily changes with the DOS.

Moreover, continue water changes has been promoted by Randy Holmes as one of the best methods to keep your tank being replenished with all the elements the salt mixtures have.

I do understand your recomendación for the PROBIOTIC salt. No discussion there. I do also understand your answers above concerning your REEF SALT too.

Bottom line ......GREAT NEWS !!!.....

Thank you !!!

I am in the same boat Dan, I want to implement AWC so I figured I would use Reef Salt and dose
Probio S
Probio F
Component Strong
Coral A, B, E, F, V
My question to AF:
is there anything in The Probiotic Salt that can not be created using AF products to supplement Reef Salt? IE will dosing Probio S,
Probio F, Coral ABEFV and Component Strong Create Probiotic Salt?
If not what would be missing?
Would one have to dose slightly more of these supplements when using reef salt as aposed to the probiotic salt? Seems like there are several redundantcies in the system.... Or different ways to use the products anyway.

As you know it contains the probiotics, but also contains aminos and vitamins. But yes these can be acquired from Coral A and V. It took me a bit to understand as well, but yes not redundancies, just different paths. I wanted to continue with my 2 part dosing and mg, so the Components A,B, and C gain me the trace and minerals dosed weekly to compliment the salt.

They have said in other threads that the bacteria in the probiotic salt is different than the bacteria in the bottles, and compliments the system. Does it make much difference to not use the probiotic salt? I don't know. I don't do AWC, so I'm using the probiotic salt, and will continue to do so for a few months, then I'm going to try switching to the Reef Salt and see if there is any difference that I can see visually.

To add to that...

Aquaforest has also said that the bacteria in ProBioS and ProBioF are also different from each other. So I think in order to cover all avenues, you would use probiotic salt, ProBioS, and ProBioF. It seems like there are not a lot of people using ProBioF though, and I'm not sure why.
