I'd like to pose a hypothetical question to all, especially large (180+) tank keeper. I We all know that qt is the right direction to go with all intoductions into our aquariums. However often times we let our excitement and lack of patients(myself included). And add a new specimen without qt. Now the biggest issue with me is the sizing of the qt since I've added a large queen angel(thanks wayne) recently. Now this specimen came from a established reef and is a long term animal. But by all rights I should have qt'd anyways since you just never know.
Most of my expericences with disease were with solid animal that were introduced and the stress of the introduction seemed to trigger pests.
My point to this post is to hear opinions of others on profilactic measures.
To hold my qt to a higher standard, I really want to insure that if I add another animal using a rigorous qt process then addition to the dt. But if there are parasites lying in wait for the moment of great stress(intoduction to an fowlr) to strike. I've been toying treating the dt like a qt for 6 wks to minimize the threat.
I know some of you are reading this thinking "he's insane, if it ain't broke" but aside from tearing down the tank and starting over how can I achieve cleansing of the DT. I currently have minimal rock in there so it should be fairly straight forward to add meds(cupramine & prazipro). I truly care about my captives and want to make sure they have as good of a life as captivity can provide. I keep angels and tangs so flukes and ich are a constant threat while introducing new specimens. I was prompted to write this after realizing that I didn't qt several tangs when the tank was first setup(several years ago). Sorry for the longwinded post but I'd really like to hear different views on the subject.
