Don't wait and risk your fish.

thats an intersting question! I am in the process of trying one myself. For years I used one to clean up the tanks of freshwater i kept. it seemed to work and so I am wondering if the same is possible for saltwater.

The filter would have to be kept clean and run for 5-8 weeks continously.

The manufacturer says the XL is designed to run that way so I am going to give it a try in one tank I have.

May be worth a try in mild cases.

Your only hope at this point is to QT them. You could use a rubbermaid container or even a plastic rubbermaid Garbage can, new clean of course. Use a heater and pump for circulation, water chages airator...

If you don't treat your fish, they will most likely parish, maybe not all but some. If you must, remove your LR and inverts and place them in your qt, then hypo your main for 6-8 weeks at .009, this will work and it won't do any harm to your bio bacteria or fish. Good luck!

I'm sorry but None of that stuff has proven to work. There really is no better option than QT, copper or Hypo. other things you are just risking your fish.

I have a 55 gallon reeftank, and had 11 fish. Never quarantined any, and the most recent addition brought in ick. Because I only had a 10 gallon for a hospital tank, I tried Kick Ick and lowering salinity to 1.016 and hoped the 2 shrimp would do their job too.
I have watched them die one by one, and tried copper treating the worst in the 10 gallon, and they died there too. My advice - quarantine!!! Treat with copper at first sign of ick even if you have to buy a new tank! We are getting a bigger hospital tank too. It is impossible to catch them in the aquascaped reeftank. How are yours doing? This all happened for me in 2 weeks. We are heartbroken.
