Hi guys,
My tank has been running for about 15 months now. Early on I always had problems with algae even though phosphates always measured 0.03 on my hanna photometer and nitrates were 0. About 4 months after I had the tank running I shut down the halides and skimmer with the thinking I was going to break the tank down. I always kept the tank running, but never shut it down. I started the tank back up a month ago. I measured phosphates at 0.54 mg/l on the hanna and nitrates were over 100. The halides have continued to run everyday and yet to my amazement I have no algae issues. I have been doing large water changes to get levels back down to safe levels so I can keep corals again, but I am baffled that I don't have algae issues with these nutrient levels. any explanation?
